Grand Opening Today, 2023 Energy Taiwan and Net-Zero Taiwan Align Synergies from the Industry, Public Sector, Academiaand Research Organizations on Future Possibilities of Net-zero Carbon Emission

TAIPEI, Taiwan — October 16, 2023 — Kicking off today (18), Energy Taiwan and Net-Zero Taiwan, both organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Green Energy and Sustainability Alliance (GESA), a SEMI Industry Group, feature a total of 1,275 booths from 350 exhibitors and 13 countries this year, facilitating the most indicative platform for promoting renewable energy across Asia at Hall 1, the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, from Oct. 18 to 20.

James C. F. Huang, Chairman of TAITRA, points out in his opening remarks, “Now is the critical time to cushion the impact of climate change. Governments have formulated various policies to increase the use of renewable energy and green power, and international companies have also improved their manufacturing processes to produce carbon-reducing products. In the future, the power to reduce carbon emission where competitiveness lies. Taiwan is not only an export-oriented economy, but also a pivot in the supply chain of various industries; it is essential to pay close attention to the trends and directions of carbon-reduction, and to accelerate the green transformation. Energy Taiwan and Net-Zero Taiwan make exactly the best platform for green energy and carbon solutions.”

Andy Shen, Chairman of PV Committee, GESA, explains in his opening remarks that “looking forward, the government has set renewable energy target as follows: solar photovoltaic capacity will grow by 2GW per year post-2025, which equals to 2.5 billion kWh of green electricity provision; offshore wind power will be connected to the grid at 1.5GW per year from 2026 onwards, which equals to 5.5 billion kWh of green electricity. These two renewable energy sources alone, namely wind and photovoltaic, will add a total of 8 billion kWh per year in the future. Meanwhile, energy storage facilities play a key role for stable power supply; a steadier power system will contribute to optimizing the utilization of green energy.”

Wen-Tsan Cheng, Vice Premier, mentioned in his opening remarks, “developing renewable energy is an urgent issue in Taiwan, as it has become the axis of the national policy. Under the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, Taiwan’s diversified ecosystem of emerging energy is thriving, and the planned capacity of renewable energy installations will reach 29GW by 2025. In recent years, thanks to collaborations in the upstream and downstream of energy industries, financial investment, and international projects, the government looks forward to making contributions with the stakeholders to upgrade Taiwan’s global raking in net-zero emission and promote the future of Green Energy.”

Chih-Ching Yang, Chief Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs expressed in the remarks, 150 countries worldwide have set the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The international pressure to reduce carbon emissions and enhance green competitiveness has become a key focus for businesses. In Taiwan, the National Development Council (NDC) has also released the Taiwan’s Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions in 2050 this year, leading various departments to progress towards the set goals. Now, the installation capacity of Taiwan’s solar photovoltaic and wind power reaching 13 GW. In the field of hydrogen power, collaborations with Japan, Australia, and the European Union have been initiated. Additionally, efforts are ongoing to establish a system and verification of carbon footprint. The aim is to guide Taiwan towards the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions through comprehensive policies and industry cooperation.

Industry Powerhouses Showcasing Their Latest Developments in
Net-Zero Country Pavilion and Green Finance Pavilion

Being the most indicative international exhibition in the energy industry, Energy Taiwan and Net-Zero Taiwan again enhance in-depth exchange among the leading players such as Neo Solar Power, , Ysolar Corp. , TSEC, URE, Orsted, SunnyFounder, Motech Industries Inc., AUO Corporation, Delta Electronics, Shihlin Electric, Fortune Electric, TCC Energy Storage Technology Corporation, Formosa Smart Energy Tech Corporation, Billion Watts Technologies, Linde LienHwa, Taiwan Ocean Energy Development Association, etc., connecting the upstream and downstream stakeholders and enhancing partnerships.

The Green Finance Pavilion, a new addition this year, supports the green transformation of enterprises from a financial perspective, helping them to achieve optimal efficiency through matchmaking and accelerating the introduction of zero-carbon energy and new technologies, regardless of their financing concerns or future tax calculations.

In addition, there are six national pavilions featuring brilliant innovations from Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. The UK Pavilion showcases the much-discussed floating offshore wind power technology; the Belgian Pavilion introduces start-ups from the Belgian Offshore Cluster; the Finnish Pavilion consists of environmental and marine energy related companies; the Swedish Pavilion invites companies from the Swedish Renewable Energy Alliance, bringing a multinational and diverse array of exhibits; and the Swedish Pavilion has invited the Swedish Renewable Energy Alliance to participate, delivering a diversified multi-national tech-scape that is sure to impress.

For the first time, Energy Saving and Carbon Reduction Health Check Services are offered during the exhibition. Advisory panels consisting of experienced experts in the field, such as Richard Hsu, Secretary General of Taiwan Association of Green Energy Transition (TAGET), will coach enterprises along the exploration towards new modes of sustainable co-operation. Net-zero and Green forums, such as Smart Energy Storage Forum and Energy Transition: Toward a Sustainable Future Forum, will discuss topics in green finance and secure energy storage. The “One-to-One Procurement Forum”, now already scheduling more than 70 sessions, is where the exhibiting vendors meet international buyers.
